Go Green With the Etsy Twitter Team

The Etsy Twitter Team initiated this online event in hopes of helping to reinforce in the public mind, the idea that buying handmade can also mean buying green. This event, which is scheduled for the week of July 21-27, 2009, is all about recycling, up-cycling, repurposing, reusing, being organic, or using eco-friendly practices in the process of creating an artistic piece.
According to Vickie of In My Head Studios and leader of the Etsy Twitter Team, the group looks for events that are fun but also meaningful to their members’ personal lives. "Go Green With the Etsy Twitter Team" is such an event.
When asked who played critical roles in organizing and executing the event, Jennifer of Jenco13 and part of the team’s public relations committee, proudly answered, “Everyone in the team!” Then she went on to cite Vickie as their fearless leader and Kristen of FirebirdHouse Designs, her co-leader, as instrumental in organizing events, running the team blog, and especially for their ability to motivate all team members. Kristen also developed the promotional materials that were sent out to the PR Committee. 
There is also a planning committee that helps to put ideas into motion and decides the particulars of the events, like the “who, what, when, where, why, and how’s”. The PR committee makes sure that the information goes out to both online and off-line outlets in a timely fashion. The general membership is very active and Jennifer thinks that everyone enthusiastically participates in as many events as they can, because they are so much fun.
Though relatively new, this is a very active team with many promotional events. This week they are running a Christmas in July sale that you can read about on the Etsy Twitter Team blog, and the details for "Go Green With the Etsy Twitter Team" will be posted next week. They also have a "Back To School" themed event planned for August 25th-September 7th with portions of the proceeds going to help buy school supplies for disadvantaged children.
Shoppers who want to "Go Green with the Etsy Twitter Team" can simultaneously take advantage of special sales on handmade items while doing something positive for our environment by visiting the team members’ shops from July 21st through July 27. As I write this article, a partial list of participants include: Jenco13, Threepeats Jewelry, Pretty Whimsical, Herban Lifestyle, Aquarian Bath, Wayside Violet, FirebirdHouse Designs, In My Head Studios, and Beadwork by Amanda.
The deadline for signing up isn’t for a few days, so Vickie recommends that interested shoppers follow the team’s blog so they can get a complete list of participants, as well as, prompt and first hand scoop about all the team’s future events.
