So there you sit, looking and critiquing. You’ve imagined the design, laid out the pattern, and after all of the tweaks and re-tweaks, you’re still not sure it’s right. Why? Anyone else who saw it would say it’s absolutely marvelous.
Believe me, you’re not alone. There are so many crafters and artisans out there that have far too little confidence in their work. Now you’re going to ask me what the solution is aren’t you? That’s great because I’m going to give it you.
My suggestion to you is, when in doubt, exude your crafting confidence. Even if you doubt yourself and your work, don’t dare let it show. Work as hard at being proud of yourself and your designs as you do at designing and creating. If you are not confident in yourself, chances are not many others will be either.
Have you ever heard the term ‘fake it ‘til you make it’? If you find yourself feeling insecure about your work, this is exactly what you need to do. Fake it! Once you’ve done this long enough, you’ll find that you really are comfortable with yourself and your work.
Do not let your creations sit in a corner somewhere because you are afraid that people will not like your designs. Photograph them, list them online, or take them proudly to a craft show or festival. If you perceive yourself as being confident of your own work, this is how people will see you and your art.
