Bridal season is upon us. In a world of Jordan almonds and matchbooks, coming up with unique alternative to cliche wedding favors can be challenging; more so if you are looking to take an eco friendly approach. Below are some of my favorite “green” ideas for making your own favors that are environmentally low-impact.
The infamous “green favor” of the decade is seed favors. Simply put, seed favors are the seeds of your choice packaged in a personalized envelope with the names of the bride and groom as well as the date. If you have access to an organic co-op, you can purchase seeds in bulk and make your own mini- envelopes on handmade recycled paper.
Bake your own fortune cookies and customize the “fortune” with the names of the bride and groom and the date. Print them on handmade recycled paper. Package them in tiny biodegradable gable boxes.
Give each guest a tree sapling. Purchase a bunch of them and wrap them individually, in organic cotton or burlap and tie them off with hemp twine. If you have an organic garden shop near by that you can purchase them from, double points.
Make your own granola and package it in compostable, food safe packaging.
Make soy candles in the same colors of the wedding theme. Wrap
in organic cotton . Print a little thank you on recycled paper, cut into tags, punch out a hole at the top of each tag, and attach with the hemp twine.
