Doesn't it always feel like a hassle when you need to mark seam allowances on ALL the pattern pieces? It can certainly feel that way for me. I find it a total waste of time. By the time I finish my seam allowances, my sewing time is up for the day. Determined to find a solution, I tried many methods to avoid marking seam allowances.
Here is the method that I am currently using. It eliminates marking of seam allowances on my fabrics and instead, marks the sewing machine that I am using. This method also helps me to sew faster.
You will need your sewing machine, a ruler, a permanent ink marker, a piece of paper and some scraps.
At your sewing machine, measure the distance of ¼” away from the needle.
Using the marker, make 2 lines on each side to guide you so that you always sew ¼” on your sewing machine at all times.
Using the lines that you have marked as a guide, sew on a piece of paper to confirm the distance of ¼”. Next, use a piece of scrap fabric to test.
Now you do not need to mark out the seam allowances on all your future projects.
