Much like smell and sound, color often invokes a sense of familiarity. Light blue and soft pink tend to remind us moms of those late nights, watching our tiny babes snoozing away. Oranges, reds and browns make us think of those cozy fall evenings by the fire, sipping warm apple cider. Some colors promise a sense of calm while others solicit vivacious energy.
When you see blue, do you just see the color, or do you imagine a bright blue sky, dotted with tiny puffs of clouds? When you see yellow, do you see vibrant sunflowers, waving in the breeze? Picture a rainbow and imagine what each of those colors mean to different people. Red often represents passion, orange for energy, green for peace. What do they mean to you?
Next time you are stuck in an artistic rut, consider not what type of project to pursue. Instead, contemplate what feeling or vibe you want to convey to the consumer. Often, just a color can inspire a string of ideas, carrying you on a crafty excursion.
Imagine you are making jewelry to sell at a summer festival. Try making some pieces using bright, summery colors! Marketing handcrafted accessories in a college area? Why not whip up some items with the school's colors? Or take a walk through your local department store and study some of the eclectic color combinations you see on display.
Whatever theme you decide to go with, you are sure to pique someone's interest! Just let the colors guide you and they will carry you across the horizons of beauty.
What's at the end of your rainbow?
