Wondering what PDF sewing patterns are for and how to buy and use them? Here is your quick guide to buying and using PDF sewing patterns.

The PDF sewing patterns that you find at online handmade buying venues, such as Artfire, are also known as eBooks, eTutorials or ePatterns. You can purchase a PDF sewing pattern for sewing garments, bags, baby booties, toys, accessories and more. The purpose of the electronic sewing pattern is the same as a conventional paper pattern. The differences are seen in the format of the pattern, the delivery and the convenience of it all.

PDF stands for portable document format. It was created by Adobe and is an electronic file that can be sent via emails or other digital medias such as CDs and DVDs. That’s right. You would be receiving an electronic file, instead of a physical paper sewing pattern in an envelope.

Search for a PDF sewing pattern of your choice and add the PDF Sewing Pattern to your cart. Be sure to read, understand and accept the seller’s policies and the details of the listing before purchasing. Complete the entire transaction by paying for it according to the seller’s payment policy.

Most sellers will send the electronic files or links directly to your email within 24 hours, once they confirm that payment has been received. Once you receive the email, you can download and save the file into your computer. To view the PDF files, you'll need the PDF file viewer, Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader may have come with your computer's initial software, or it can be downloaded for free at the Adobe website.

You can also choose to print it out or simply read the instructions off the screen. If there are printable sewing patterns that you can use, print them out using recycled papers. The plus point of using PDF sewing patterns is that the file is always there and works by print-on-demand. It is a really good way to save paper and ink resources, cutting down on waste. You print what you need, only when you need it, any time you want to sew!
