Give old newspapers a new purpose with this easy no-sew coaster tutorial.
The Hardware:
Ruler
Iron on vinyl
Iron
Old newspapers or grocery store circulars
Scissors
Pinking shears (optional)
Glue stick
Dishtowel
With your newspaper and ruler, measure and cut out fifteen 4 X 4 inch squares per desired amount of coasters. If you plan on making a total of four coasters, you will want to cut out a total of sixty squares. Note: if you have access to a paper cutter, you can multiple squares at once which will save you a good amount of time. Separate out your squares into piles of fifteen squares. Take your top square and place it to the side. Using your glue stick, take the next square and smear a little bit of glue on it and attach it to the square previously set aside. Continue to do this with each square in the pile, making sure that your bottom and top squares have no glue on their exposed sides. Repeat for all of your piles.
Cut out two 4.5 X 4.5 inch squares for each coaster from your iron on vinyl. Following the directions on the package, iron on the sticky sides to the bottom and the top of each pile of fifteen sheets. It is very important to make sure that you are not ironing your vinyl with a bare iron. Ensure your dishtowel is covering the area fully before pressing. Allow each pile to cool completely before proceeding to the next step.
Trim around the edges of your vinyl squares making sure they are neat and even. If you have pinking shears, you can use them to make a decorative edge.
Enjoy!
