What A Street Team Can Do For You

August 15, 2009 | By

street_team.pngIf you have thought about joining a street team but aren't sure, I have an answer for you! Do it! A word of caution though-be choosy! You don't want to get stuck in a group where you do all the work, but don't reap any rewards. A team should be just that-a team.

So, how do you find a team? Probably the easiest way is to search through Etsy's teams, since they have a list: team.etsy.com/teams.html. There are many other places to find teams and groups though! Etsy certainly isn't the only place, but they have a great list. Try running a search on a search engine. I suggest looking for a street team that meets in person. I'll tell you why later.

But, how do you know the team you have in mind is a good team? Do a little research before you sign up. Check out the team's blog or website. Does it look organized? Is there a list of positions? You should find out because if no one is putting work in, then probably no one is getting anything out of it. If they aren't organized and hard-working, chances are they aren't active.

As I mentioned above, I recommend you join a street team that meets in person as opposed to one that operates solely via internet, and here's why. As you probably know, selling online is much more challenging than vending, for example. If your team is doing events in the city you live in, chances are you are going to be noticed more and make better sales.

Most importantly, why should you join a team or group? Being a member of a team will get you recognized, especially if you hold a position. You will have your shop listed on the team's website or blog. You will be able to participate in exclusive events held only by your team. You may even have your items featured on the website or in giveaway bags. Being a member of a team also allows you to network with other teams, which is good for getting the word out on you and your team.

Plus, being a team member is extremely rewarding. I have made great friendships and gained some cool experiences from participating in my team. And, I can't deny that our team events are awesome. So, take the plunge! I'm sure you will love it and benefit from it.
