For those of us that live in the more rural areas you will have noticed the farmers preparing and starting the first stage of the harvest. If you live near allotments or landshares you may also see the new seasons vegetables coming through. Today I noticed the change in the TV scheduling as my son stared shocked at the lack of the summer song which has just been replaced with the autumn one. To describe it to you it has a very country feeling to it, the video has been aged with sepia tones and has those crackling lines running down it that I associate with an old style recording, they focus on the harvest as they collect apples, carrots and corn to prepare a harvest feast.
The good life has also extended to the virtual world, there are many games out there that focus on agriculture and farming. Even if you don't play them you may have been hard pressed to ignore them as the 'farmers' boast about their crops and achievements.
Country colours will always remain in the autumn/fall colour palletes due to their hues being taken directly from the nature and are consistent at this time of year, creamy browns reflect the hay and corn being harvested, oranges are symbolic of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Checked fabric prints are also associated with those that work on the land and country and western style music, commonly in fall colours with white or add a few girly colours for a feminine touch.
Influences from the country feeling can also be found in other fashion trends. Ralph Lauren's fall collection contains some tweed waistcoats coupled with matching jackets and cowl necks. A leap from the traditional idea of country living but the style shows a great potential this season.
