Etsy Releases Rearrange Your Shop, 1000 Markets Changes Layout, and Much More From Your Favorite Handmade Venues

September 08, 2009 | By

handmade_venue_update.jpgWelcome to HandmadeNews’ Handmade Venue Update! Here, we summarize all the recent events for the week of the top most used craft marketplaces on the web. That way, whether you sell at one site or several, you need only stop in here to get the news you need.

The venues listed below are all arranged in alphabetical order with links to each to the news updates on each of these websites’ news blogs. If we’ve missed anything please let us know!

1000 Markets
Last week, 1000 Markets rolled out big changes to their layout and functionality of the site, for “visual appeal, buyer flow and coherence, and to place a greater emphasis on products”, according to their official forum post on the redesign.

One of the first changes visitors will notice about the new 1000 Markets design is the Cart Frame at the top of the page. Now, no matter where you go on 1000 Markets, your cart will stay with you in the exact same place. Visitors will also notice that the different markets are no longer called markets, they’ve been renamed as themes.

A lot of these changes applied mostly to site navigation, including the rearrangement of tabs, added side bars, and the arrangement of categories on the front page. However, new tools have also been added for members to better promote and keep statistics on their items. Users are given a Share option, which allows them to post items to Facebook, Twitter, embed in a widget, or email to a friend. 1000 Markets members will also be happy to know that Google Analytics are now available in their studios for beta testing. With Google Analytics, they can track referring URLS, shop traffic, and even outgoing URLs.

Simply put, there have been a lot of changes over at 1000 Markets! To get the details on all the new updates, click here to read Matt’s forum post.

ArtFire
ArtFire is currently testing Amazon Payments, which they plan to add to their payment methods for sellers and buyers. Unlike payment services such as PayPal and Google Checkout, Amazon Payments allows shoppers to checkout using their Amazon account information. With close to 88 million users already on Amazon Payments, this will help bring in additional shoppers for the holiday season. Click here to read more.

ArtFire has announced their new Facebook giveaway for September, in which users can win a free verified for life account on ArtFire (currently a $144 dollar yearly value). To enter, members post a link to their Facebook Fan page Kiosk on ArtFire’s Fan page. Like previous contests, two winners will be selected randomly from the posts. Click here to read more.

Etsy users are also encouraged to note that Etsy will be undergoing some maintenance Wednesday, September 9, from 2 a.m. – 6 a.m. EST, in which the site may be unavailable or not working properly. Folksy has just put the finishing touches on a brand new feature which will allow members to delete their Folksy accounts (i.e., completely shut down their stores) quickly and easily. As this is an irreversible decision, members are asked to use this feature wisely. Click here to read more.
