Facebook is one of the ‘net’s premiers sites for interaction on a social level, but I am treating it separately from ‘social networks’ as it is a marketing opportunity of its own.
Facebook is becoming ever more versatile when applications such as the ArtFire Facebook Kiosk are providing the opportunity to market your arts and crafts to people who will never even have to browse the ArtFire site, or register to purchase any of it’s unique gifts.
Once a Fan Page reaches 100 Fans - it can apply to have its URL changed to one that is unique to itself instead an endless string of letters and numbers forming a cumbersome link. This is an opportunity to add a cute or practical URL to channel buyers towards you, and to interact with possible buyers - a great marketing opportunity!
Struggling to reach your magic 100 as a seller? Check out the Forums at ArtFire and Etsy, both have several threads where sellers trade ‘Fans’ and encourage each other along towards their goal. This may mean working systematically through a lot of pages but the result will be a nice neat URL that is more readily marketable. Or, you can check out Libby's Handmade News article, Getting Your 100 Fan Requirement For Facebook Fan Pages Easy.
A Facebook Fan Page will allow you to post regularly about items coming online in the future and circulate special offers. Special offers to Facebook fans is a great way to potentially increase sales - just remember to use this ability to post to ALL of your fans sparingly. They won’t thank you for spamming them with special offers.
So, get that Fan Page polished and shiny ready for the Christmas Holiday countdown!
