Welcome to HandmadeNews’ Handmade Venue Update! Here, we summarize all the recent events for the week of the top most used craft marketplaces on the web. That way, whether you sell at one site or several, you need only stop in here to get the news you need.
The venues listed below are all arranged in alphabetical order with links to each to the news updates on each of these websites’ news blogs. If we’ve missed anything please let us know!
1000 Markets
There have been no new updates on 1000 Markets since the beginning of the September. Click here to read a summary of their last update.
ArtFire
Last week, ArtFire rolled out their Etsy Importer, which is free for all members on the site along with the Global Product Editor for the month of October. After the month has come to an end, the Importer and Editor will be reserved for verified members only.
The Etsy Importer works by copying active Etsy listings into one’s ArtFire studio, allowing members to easily set up shop on both marketplaces. Members can use this tool to import specific listings or their entire studio, and can even set up the feature to allow importing from multiple Etsy stores into on a single ArtFire studio. Once the import process is complete, members are taken to the Global Product Editor, where they can make changes to their newly imported items. To learn more about this feature, click here.
DaWanda
As part of their weekly interview series, DaWanda has posted a new interview with seller IsabellasArt on their English blog. To read the interview, click here.
Etsy
Etsy added filters to their search last week to allow shoppers to narrow down search results based on category. These filters are very similar to Amazon’s search filters, in which members see the number of results for items in certain categories. They can then browse within these categories down to the sub-sub category level. To read more about this update, click here. Members should note that all search results are still sorted based on listing date by default.
Voting for the Handmade Moment Contest ended Sunday night at 11:59 p.m. EST. Winners have yet to be announced but readers can watch the 10 finalist videos here.
The maintenance scheduled for yesterday morning has been moved to October 12, at which point Etsy may be down or running strangely from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. EST. The maintenance scheduled for October 19 has also been pushed back until November 2. Click here to read more.
Folksy
Folksy has announced its featured items for the week: Christmas Gifts for Men. Click here to see their featured sellers.
iCraft
In iCraft’s message board they posted four major updates they are currently working on. The top item on their agenda is to better optimize product pages for search engines, as well as provide information for sellers on optimizing their own items. They’re even looking for volunteers to have their products optimized openly as an example for other sellers.
The second feature iCraft is building is a site blog, which they’ll also need volunteer testers for. When the blog first rolls out all posts will have be approved before going live, but eventually this process will be open to all members on the site.
iCraft’s message board will also be seeing some changes as they move over to a forum based platform. While functionality should be the same, the layout and design will be different and take some getting used to.
The last point in iCraft’s update is their new Shop by Color feature they’re working on. As they build this new feature, they’re also looking into a Shop Local and Shop by City search option. To read more about any of these new updates, click here.
