Aimee of AimeeRoo.com: Featured Blogger of the Week

November 06, 2009 | By

bigroonetwork_2.jpgToday’s featured blogger is a kind of Jack-of-All-Trades, whose hobbies and interests reach far and wide! Aimee blog, AimeeRoo.com, reflects Aimee’s many interesting while showing her energy and enthusiasm. She’s taken time out of her busy day to talk with us, so let’s see what she has to say!

For our readers new to your blog, please tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

My blog isn't about just one thing, it's kind of about everything! I love to share things I find online, the projects we are working on, and other random thoughts. You will see a lot of photos of the garden and our pets. A lot of great books come my way, so you will see book reviews too. It's really just my place to have fun and connect with other people. It's really the readers that keep me interested in blogging, it's fun to see what other people are creating and to share fun finds with them as well.

And as for me, I am just a quirky person who loves hula hooping, technology, dancing, gardening, cooking, photography, DIY projects, and animals. I'm also lucky to be the wife of a great husband who supports me in all my crazy interests.

You post a blog entry almost every day (sometimes twice a day!) do you ever experience writer’s block? If so, how do you overcome it?

Yes, I get writers block sometimes, and when I do get it I usually don't post for a bit. Luckily it doesn't seem to last very long, because at the very least I can share a photo or something that I am working on. For me the best way to get over a block is to just give in to it a bit; go outside in my garden, play with pets or do something else active, or read what other people are up to on their blogs.

How do you manage to find balance between your other blogs, job, family, baking, photography, and a social life?

I am very lucky to have a super husband who supports my blogging efforts. The best advice I can give is to put first things first (as Steven R. Covey teaches), and for me those first things are personal health (which includes working out and cooking healthy meals), taking care of family and household stuff, and then hobbies after those things are done. Luckily I find there is always at least a little time each day to do something fun.

As a photographer, how important would you say having great photos is to managing a blog?P1010023.JPG

Photos make a post in my opinion! I always try to include a photo of some sort because it makes the post more fun to read (or at least I think so). I know that when I visit blogs, I always enjoy seeing the photos. Photos give you a peek into another person's life, and give you a chance to see what is being talked about. Photos don't have to be perfect to be interesting either. Taking photos for posts also helps me make sure to use my camera more often.

You often end posts with a question to generate discussion. How important would you say interaction with readers is to blogging?

Without my readers and commenters, blogging would be boring. Interaction makes it a lot more fun for me, and hopefully more fun for readers too. I always enjoy what people have to say on different topics, which is one reason why I like to include questions when I can. I would have to say that interaction is key when it comes to creating a blog.

Do you have any advice for new bloggers looking to get started?

The best advice I can give to anyone getting started is to just be yourself. If you can write about things the way you would talk to a friend about it you will enjoy your blogging a lot more. Have fun with writing and taking photos for your blog, and be sure to visit a lot of other blogs too. Comment on blogs that you like to read, and be sure to respond to your readers when you can.

What were your goals with starting this blog, and do you feel you’re reached them now?

My goal in starting my blog was to keep in touch with friends and family who lived far away. Where it has lead since then has far exceeded that first goal! My blog has introduced me to so many wonderful online friends and artists. I couldn't have hoped for more when I started. It's been a really great time.

Flam.jpgAlright, I have to ask…Pink Flamingos?

Oh flamingos! Plastic pink yard flamingos have been a bit of an inside joke in my family for years. We all think they are a hoot, and of course they are totally kitschy, which is something else I love. The flock is always growing.

What’s a fun fact most readers don’t know about you?

Most readers might not know that my fingers are double jointed. This is especially funny considering that the rest of me is totally not flexible, despite my love of yoga!

Last but not least, why do you believe that supporting handmade and indie is important?

There are so many reasons, but mainly I feel like handmade and indie artists are the innovators. They come up with the great ideas, techniques, and messages. Without them the world would be truly boring, as we need unique view points and talents. And on a personal note, I really enjoy having items that are unique, things that can't just be bought by everyone else at a big box store. It's also nice to know that someone really cared about making the item too, and that my purchase of it supported their dream in some way.

Thanks Aimee! For more of Aimee’s writings, please visit her blog at AimeeRoo.com.
