Welcome to HandmadeNews’ Handmade Venue Update! Here, we summarize all the recent events for the week of the top most used craft marketplaces on the web. That way, whether you sell at one site or several, you need only stop in here to get the news you need.
The venues listed below are all arranged in alphabetical order with links to each to the news updates on each of these websites’ news blogs. If we’ve missed anything please let us know!
NOTE: To help condense this update, I went ahead and removed a few of venues who have not updated in a while, namely, WinkElf and MadeitMyself. I will still check these venues every week for updates, but for now they have been removed from the Handmade Venue Update until they post something new.
1000 Markets
1000 Markets has added a few new buttons on their front page for their various holiday themed markets. These buttons include: Holidays, Holiday Jewelry Collection, Gifts for Men Collection, and Gifts that keep on Giving.
ArtFire
ArtFire made some minor changes to its front page over the weekend, in which they featured items placed specially on sale for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Their front page should revert back to normal December 1st, however, their Black Friday, Holiday Deals, and Cyber Monday trend pages will remain active, and users offering season long sales can still use the Holideals tag to have their items placed in these trend pages.
ArtFire has also built four new trend pages: Items on Sale, Free (domestic US) Shipping Items, Free Gift Items, Coupon Items, and BOGO Items. These trend pages pull from their five different Promo Labels available to Pro members.
ArtFire has also added a new banner to their top bar linking to the Holiday Deals page. This banner will remain in place until the holiday season has passed.
DaWanda
DaWanda has posted their featured seller interview with Jolyon Yates this week, along with their latest installment of Christmas Gifts for celebrities: Gifts for Courtney Love. They’ve also posted a new tutorial on embroiling stars on paper for decorative gift tags.
Now that DaWanda’s Advent Calendar is up and running, they’re announcing a special sale every day. Shoppers only need to check on the appropriate day (counting up from Nov. 24th) to receive sale news, or sign up for email updates. However, these specials are only good for the day they are offered, so once you receive news of a sale check it out right away.
Etsy
Etsy has partnered with Google in their Product Search Marketplace Partner Program. This partnership will allow Etsy sellers to automatically submit their products to Google Product Search (Google Base) along with their shop name and feedback. Right now, Etsy is in the process of beta testing this new feature within the community. A gradual rollout to the rest of the Etsy community will follow shortly.
Folksy
Folksy has announced its featured items for the week: Christmas Gift Guide!
Folksy also held a special party, the Folksy Christmas Upcycle Do Monday at the Fellow Pub in King’s Cross, London. This party was completely free, and guests were encouraged to share their projects and create goodies. Folksy had 60 tickets available for the event as the room rented could hold no more than 60; however it’s not clear how many attended.
iCraft
iCraft has made some changes to their new blog interface. They’ve fixed their issue with the top drop-down menu on the posting page, and added in a Google Search box. Blog stats can also now be checked in Google Analytics.
ShopHandmade
ShopHandmade has added a new Black Friday Sale banner to the top of their front page.
