Flower Pen Tutorial

December 07, 2009 | By

Flower pens are a fun little craft you can do in a short period of time. I create and sell them in my own Flower Pen shops on Etsy and Artfire. But because I'm a giving person I"m going to tell you how you can make your very own flower pens!!

First gather your materials

You'll Need:

*Artificial Flowers (found at various craft stores)

*Hot glue

*Bic pens

*Floral tape (found at various craft stores)

*Wire clippers

You'll need to remove the ink section from the barrel of the pen. Grasp the colored part of the ink tube and GENTLY pull it from the pen barrel.

Now on to my pet peeve. Many people just tape the flower to the barrel of the pen. This irks me. Putting the flower stem INSIDE The pen is not difficult and here is how!

Use the GRASPING part of your wire clippers (Not the sharp part of the clippers but the grasping part. If your clippers don't have this you can cut off the end of the pen if need be.) Anyway, you can gently squeeze out the little pen 'cork' at the bottom of the pen using your clippers.

See how it 'pops' out! TAKE CAUTION! These little pen corks can go FLYING!!

Now you have a completely empty pen barrel.

Clip the end of the ink barrel just a little to make room for the flower stem. DO NOT CLIP too close to the INK..or you'll get an inky mess!

Now bust out your floral tape. Most craft stores sell green, white and even brown. Colored floral tape can be found online. You can even use duct tape if you'd like! Floral tape sticks to itself, so wrap it around the pen, overlapping, Depending on the color of your tape and the color of your pen, you may need to overlap several times.

Now on to the flowers!!

Using your wire clippers, cut the bloom off the artificial flower, leaving a small amount of the stem that you will be putting inside

the pen barrel.

You will need to eyeball the size of your flower stems when making flower pens. Some artificial flowers have too wide stems to insert in the barrel.

Put hot glue on the flower stem for insertion in the pen barrel. Don't worry if extra glue oozes out when you insert the flower into the pen. You can peel it off later.

Insert the flower into the pen and you're almost done!

Now you need to just insert the ink barrel BACK into the pen barrel and you're almost done!

Peel any

excess hot glue that squirted out around the underside of the pen barrel once it's dried and viola! Completed flower pens!! Add them to a cute bucket
