Welcome to HandmadeNews’ Handmade Venue Update! Here, we summarize all the recent events for the week of the top most used craft marketplaces on the web. That way, whether you sell at one site or several, you need only stop in here to get the news you need.
The venues listed below are all arranged in alphabetical order with links for additional information.
There have been no new updates for DaWanda, Ethikl, iCraft, Madeitmyself, Silkfair, or Zibbet this week.
1000 Markets
1000 Markets has added a new banner to their front page for Summer Parties, which links to items labeled for summer entertaining.
ArtFire
The artisan organized Christmas in Sale on ArtFire is now in full swing, and ArtFire has launched three separate contests to help promote the event. All of these contests are going on this week, and all offer shopping sprees of various sizes. Their Twitter Contest allows members to enter by RTing a Christmas in July tagged tweet from the ArtFire Twitter account for a chance to win one of four $25 shopping sprees. For their Facebook Contest, members enter by “liking” the Christmas in July Sale Trend Page for a chance to win one of two $50 shopping sprees. For their Blogging Contest, members just link to the trend page in a post and feature at least one item from the sale for a chance to win a $100 shopping spree. All winners for these contests will be selected randomly and announced on July 21st.
The COO of ArtFire, Tony Ford, has also made a post concerning ArtFire’s Market Philosophy. In this post, Tony discusses marketplace models of the past which don’t serve the sellers, and explains how ArtFire offers something more.
Etsy
Currently Etsy is preparing to add a new section in their forums for international users, which users can read more about in their latest Postcard from Europe. This post also announced the next exhibition at Etsy Labs Berlin, which falls on July 15 at 7 p.m., and will feature works from Berlin-based Etsy artist Walter Mason. All members in the area are welcome to attend but are also encouraged to RSVP to the event.
Users should also note that category widening is now complete, and widen site changes should now be available to all members.
Users of Etsy’s Treasury East can now tag their treasures to allow for better sorting and browsing of treasures. Members can also choose whether to set their treasures to private, in the event they do not wish for fellow Etsy users to view their Treasures. Read more about this update here. Etsy is also starting to filter mature content, so that only Etsy users who have “opted in” can view Treasuries tagged as mature. Next on the horizon, Etsy plans to start work on Treasury Search.
Folksy
Folksy has added a new series to their blog: Shop Front. Articles posted in this series will serve as a resource for selling handmade goods online at Folksy. Folksy is currently inviting members to send in the topics they most wish to read about in Shop Front articles.
