How to Find the Most Searched for Keywords

May 15, 2009 | By

A keyword is generally a phrase. It is whatever is typed into a search engine when someone is searching for something online. It is useful to have a solid understanding of keywords for titling products or articles on the internet so that your products will come up more often when people search for them.

There are many ways to find out what the most searched keywords are. Some are more profitable than others. For instance, I know that a product titled, “Hand Crafted Silver Jewelry” will perform much better than one titled “Handmade Silver Jewelry.” Here is how.

Most people use Google as their search engine. This is helpful because Google provides considerable information publicly regarding their search statistics. One of the best tools Google offers is Google Trends. This tool shows recent search trends, practically up to the minute. Any of these search trends can be great keywords for titling products or articles, but because they are based on short term trends, it can be deceiving.

There are a number of tools out there which are hosted aside from the search engines and provide analysis of the search data from all the major search engines and meta crawlers. One of these sites, WordTracker, offers a free keyword tool which can prove to be very useful. It is as easy as typing in a word that has to do with your topic or product and clicking 'Hit Me.' The tool will display the most searched for phrases that are related to your typed word along with an estimated number of searches per day.

I will warn you, though, that simply using a powerful keyword in your title will not guarantee you traffic to your articles and products. Your product must be very closely related to the keyword and your item description should also reflect the keyword. Otherwise, you may get some traffic, but you won’t make any sales. In addition, the keyword itself is not the only factor in search engine rankings. Competition and site credibility are also huge factors. Need-extra-cash.net offers another free keyword tool, which takes these additional factors into account and can help you to target low competition keywords.

Remember, above all, that keywording is not an exact science. Often a well targeted page will flop and another poorly designed one may excel. However, well targeted articles tend to perform better in the long run.
